INNOFLIGHT – KEY PROVIDER TO DARPA’S BLACKJACK PIT BOSS PROGRAM

SAN DIEGO, CA, February 18, 2020 – Today, Innoflight is pleased to announce its selection for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Blackjack Pit Boss program on the team led by Scientific Systems Company, Inc. (SSCI). On this program, Innoflight will be providing the SSCI team with the advanced processing platform hardware that will host the Collaborative Mission Autonomy (CMA) software. Innoflight will also lead in the provision of the Pit Boss cyber-security solution. Innoflight is leveraging its advanced Compact Flight Computers (CFCs), namely the FPGA-based CFC-400 and the GPU-based CFC-500, as well as its space mesh secure networking ECU-400, advancing and compatible with other High Assurance Internet Protocol Encryption (HAIPE™) units. Both the CFC-400 and ECU-400 are expected to fly in LEO and higher orbits in 2020.

“Innoflight is proud to be recognized for its advanced processing and cryptographic technologies and being a key contributor in the high profile DARPA Pit Boss program, one of many programs to assure our country’s future national security,” said Jeff Janicik, Innoflight CEO and President. “Innoflight is also providing multiple technologies to other national security space customers, making Innoflight the ‘go-to’ company for advanced cyber, communications and processing technologies suited for national defense applications.”

DARPA’s Blackjack program focuses on integrating commercial satellite technologies into a constellation of affordable, small, secure, and resilient military satellites. This program aims to demonstrate the capabilities of a Proliferated Low Earth Orbit (P-LEO) system through a variety of on-orbit experiments using 20 low-cost small satellites, each carrying payloads relevant to select military missions. Pit Boss is the computing and encryption hardware and modular software element of Blackjack that is envisioned to enable autonomous on-orbit mission tasking, sensor collection, on-board processing and exploitation, and dissemination via a worldwide digital network, all at mission speed. Pit Boss further should provide an open and cyber-resilient platform architecture that allows the flexible and rapid integration of new mission payloads and autonomy software applications onto a commoditized small satellite bus of choice. Innoflight will be leveraging its previous DARPA effort to develop and deliver a System F6 Technology Package (F6TP), which ultimately is being used for space cyber testbed research by the U.S. Government.
